Automatic Extruder Loading Control System

A compact system for precise gravimetric dosing of sand and shredded plastic, mixing by recipe, and feeding into an extruder. Carbon black pigment is metered by a separate weighing doser directly above the extruder. Control is via a Constanta Vaga cabinet with a KV-4 controller.

What it does

  • Accurate component dosing to the operator-set recipe ratios
  • Stable, even extruder feeding
  • Counting of doses/cycles with cumulative totals per recipe
  • Reduction of human error and repeatable quality

How it works

  1. A two-compartment storage hopper holds sand (compartment 1) and shredded plastic (compartment 2).
  2. By the selected recipe, components are weighed and discharged onto a horizontal weighing conveyor to form a 10 kg batch.
  3. The mix transfers to an inclined conveyor that feeds the extruder.
  4. A weighing pigment doser above the extruder adds carbon black directly into the feed zone.
  5. The control cabinet coordinates sequence, setpoints, pauses, alarms, and data logging.

System composition

  • Two-compartment storage hopper on a rigid frame
  • Dosing/discharge unit to the weighing conveyor
  • Horizontal weighing and inclined belt conveyors
  • Weighing pigment doser (carbon black) above the extruder
  • Control cabinet:  600×800×250, IP54, KV-4 controller, pushbuttons and signal lights (labels in Ukrainian)
  • Sensors, drives, cabling — per project

Control & operation

  • KV-4 stores in non-volatile memory: total mass per component, total mix mass, and number of doses per recipe
  • Pushbuttons: START / STOP / Recipe Select
  • States: Stopped, Dosing, Pause (second STOP → full stop; resume from Pause continues the interrupted cycle)
  • Manual mode for maintenance (individual actuators with the dosing cycle stopped)
  • Alarm indication and on-screen prompts

Capacity & accuracy

  • Throughput: ~1 t/shift (≈ 125 kg/h)
  • Cycle rate:13 doses/h, 10 kg per dose (≈ 4.5 min/cycle)
  • Recipe (by mass): sand 70%, plastic 28%, pigment (carbon black) 2%
  • Accuracy:±1%
    • sand: 7.00 kg ± 0.07 kg
    • plastic: 2.80 kg ± 0.02 kg
    • pigment: 0.200 kg ± 0.002 kg
